Career Opportunities - Cook II
General Function: Lead responsibility for the preparation and serving of food. Major tasks - may include some or all of the following:
- Performs skilled cooking tasks such as baking, stewing, roasting, and steam cooking meats, fish, and fowl.
- Prepares desserts, pastries, breads, and cakes.
- Ensures that prepared foods are palatable and attractive.
- Dishes up servings according to menu, patient diets, and nursing home standards.
- Assists in setting up and filling meal trays and steam tables.
- Oversees serving of food.
- Estimates quantities of food and supplies needed to meet menu requirement by following standardized recipes.
- Attends scheduled inservice education programs.
- Performs related work as required or assigned.
Educational Requirements:
- Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to graduation from high school.
Experience requirements
- Two or more years of experience in preparation of food on a large scale preferably in a health care institution.
- Ability to prepare attractive and palatable food following standardized recipes and procedures.
- Ability to estimate food and supply needs.
- Knowledge of sanitation regulations relating to the handling and preparation of food.
Physical requirements
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Walks, bends, stands, stoops, lifts, on a regular basis.

- Ability to supervise and work cooperatively with others.
