Many of you may have recently witnessed a great finish at this years Master's tournament in Augusta, GA. While these may be some of the best players in the world all with different golf swings, they all have some things in common. A great pre-shot set up and routine. Remember we make poor swings with poor results usually before we even set the club in motion. This comes from failing to set up the body correctly. To achieve success remember these three simple letters. P.G.A. (Posture, Grip, Alignment).
Posture Only from a good posture are you able to coil and uncoil effectively. The knees should be only slightly flexed. There should be a slight tilt in the hips with your head and chin up. The arms should be hanging down from the shoulders naturally so that the hands are at least a hands-width from the legs. Poor posture often results in fat and heavy or thin and topped shots. To find the feel of good posture place the toe of a club against your lower back, touch the shaft to your upper back and touch the grip to the back of your head. While keeping this intact lean forward in to an address position and just unlock your knees.
Grip Maybe the most important! Your hands are the only connector between yourself and the club. The grip is the foundation of the entire swing. You may use either the interlocking, overlapping or ten- finger grip, whichever is most comfortable. All have been used at the games highest level. In the left hand for a right handed player the end of the club should rest under the padded area of the left hand. This hand with the grip slightly more in the palm than the fingers will be the hand controlling the swing. The left thumb should be slightly to the right of the center line of the grip (say at 1 o' clock). Grip pressure is best described as medium. In the right hand your lower hand the life-line should cover and hide the left thumb. The right thumb should be slightly to the left of the center line of the grip (say 11 o' clock). The club with the right hand should be held mostly in the fingers.
Alignment Golf is a target game. Before we begin to execute a shot we must first determine the line on which we want the ball to travel. Stand directly behind the ball and target. Pick out a secondary point (a divot, a brown spot, etc.) a few feet in front of the ball that happens also to be inline with your target. It much easier to line something up a few feet away than 200 yards away. While addressing the ball think of a railroad track with the ball on the target track, with your feet, knees, hips, shoulders and even your eyes parallel left of your target. While working on alignment eye dominance is a large factor. Sometimes you may need to retrain your eyes. While the ability to aim can be affected by both eyes it is mostly controlled by your dominant eye. The dominant eye must be appropriately positioned in order to aim correctly and consistently.

Calling all golfers...we need your help... Everyone likes to golf on a well groomed course and our grounds crew is working very hard to provide us with the best conditions possible. We therefore ask all golfers for their help by replacing their divots, using the sand/seed mixture on the tee boxes, repairing ball marks on the greens, raking the bunkers and respecting the white lines around the greens. We appreciate your assistance.
