NEWS RELEASE:

On Friday, November 21, 2008, at 9:00 AM, Kenosha County Sheriff Deputies responded to a structure fire located at 28640-113th Street (Town of Salem).

Robert J. Twomey (75 years old), called 911 from inside the structure.  He said the door was too hot, and that he was trapped in the basement.  Firefighters from Salem Fire Department arrived and observed smoke pouring from the house.  They were able to extract Mr. Twomey from the house before it became fully engulfed in flames.  Several Fire Departments responded to the scene.

Fire and Rescue personnel initiated CPR, and transported Mr. Twomey to St. Catherine’s Hospital located in Pleasant Prairie, WI.  He died a short time later.

Salem Fire Dept. Chief Mike Slover stated that the fire is not deemed suspicious, and may be contributed to a heating unit inside the residence.  Fire & Rescue Departments from Bristol, Wheatland, Randall, and Racine Fire Bells responded to the structure fire.

Kenosha County Sheriff’s Detectives and the State Fire Marshal will conduct an investigation due to the fatality.
